Apples

Georgia grows a wide range of apples thanks to its diverse climate zones and fertile soils. The main production regions are Kakheti, Shida Kartli, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Imereti and Mtskheta-Mtianeti. Together they cover the calendar from early summer through to stored winter fruit.

Varieties & seasons

• Traditional Georgian: Chinuri, Ganja, Abkhazuri. Aromatic, distinctive local character
• Early (Jul–Aug): White Filling, Melba, Gala. Juicy, sweet, popular for export
• Autumn (Sep–Oct): Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Fuji. Sweet, crunchy, store well
• Winter (Oct–Nov, stored to spring): Granny Smith, Reinette, Idared. Firm, ideal for transport
